Contents Page - Continual Updates
This is my contents page in working progress. I started it like this using the same continual colour scheme as the front cover and the same colours as the double page spread. I different image on the contents page compared to the one that's on the double page spread and the front cover of the magazine.
This second image is of the final version of my contents page. As you can see I have continued working on the previos version and I have added all of the important page numbers as well as a 'P' in the background. This 'P' is there to represent the title of the magazine which is 'Press Play'. I have kept the image on the contents page the same and in the same position because I didn't feel that it was necessary to change or remove the image.
This is the final version of my magazine. I decided to change the colours at the top a little bit because I just wanted to see what it looked like and I happened to like its turn out. I have also kept the PSD file for the contents page because I still feel as though the text for the contents page is not right and I believe that I could still find a text that is suitable for this page.
This version of the contents page has got the page number included on there because I forgot to include it on the previous image.Monday, 22 November 2010
Front Cover - Continual Updates
This is my magazine front cover in working progress. I have put this picture of Chris Brown there so that I know where to put my actual image when I take the photos. When I take the actual photo for the front cover then I will be able to arrange the text properly so that it looks more like a music magazine.Whilst updating my front cover I know that I should make the masthead bigger, sort the kicker, lowlines and straplines out as well. When my actual images are there, I can change anything that needs changing as I see fit.
The second version of the magazine front cover that shows the proper image that I wanted to use on the front cover. I replaced the image of Chris Brown to one of Junaid. As you are able to see, the front cover is also still in working progress. Next time I hope to have the straplines completed. I also want to change the colour scheme for the magazine as there looks as though there are too many colours on there.
This bottom image is the final and completed version of the front cover of my magazine. As you will be able to see I have changed the colour scheme of the magazine, the font style for the masthead and even the main image. The reason that I chose to change the colour scheme of the front cover is because I realised that pink was not really a suitable colour for the cover and I wanted to change the colours because I wanted something that reflects and was similar to what Junaid is wearing as well as the fact that the pink made the magazine look too feminine so I thought that green would be a more suitable colour. I decided to place Junaid in front of the masthead because I wanted people to realise that he was the focus and he was what the magazine was all about not just the title of it.I think that the text for the straplines could be changed because I still don't feel as though it suits the style of the magazine and I don't want to have too many font styles on the front cover so I think that this is something that can still be worked on.
This image below is the changed version of the final front cover. I decided to change the font style because I felt that the other text did not really suit the front cover so it seemed best to try and change it to something that looked a bit more appropriate. The image has also been enlarged a bit more and this is only because I wanted to fill the white gaps a bit more.Wednesday, 17 November 2010
Double Page Spread - Continual Updates
This is my double page spread. It is currently in working progress. The blue box in the middle is meant to be the space where the images are going to be and I just placed a picture of Chris Brown there until I put my actual images there. The colours that I am going to use on the double page spread are grey and pink with a white background.
This new image us the updated version of what I have done to my double page spread so far. If you look as the one above you can see that there is the image of Chris Brown and the blue rectangle in the middle of the page. However, in this new one you will be able to see that the middle blue rectangle has been removed and in the left hand corner you will see that there is a yellow rectangle there and this was put there so that I would be able to align the text. The Chris Brown image has also been removed and I did this because I knew that my images would have to go there so I just decided to remove it and once my images have been put there I can change the text if necessary. This third image is the progression of double page spread. If you look at this one carefully then you will be able to see that the article only focuses on one person rather than two. This was done because I realised that it would be easier to focus the article on one person and I also saw that there wasn't enough space or time to do this. You will be able to see where I have positioned my image and you can see that I have tried to use the rule of thirds in there by positioning the image in the right hand corner and then placing the text all around it. On this one as well I have changed the colours on there from black, pink and grey to grey, white, green and black. This is because my magazine article was focused on a boy so I decided that it would be more suitable for me to use more manly colours and black and green seemed to be suitable ones. I also decided, just like the front cover, that it would also be best to use colours that are close to colour of the clothes that Junaid was wearing. This image is the completed version of my double page spread however if I see that some changes need to be made before the deadline then I will make them to make sure that I get a better grade.
This is the final version of the double page spread. If you look at the image above and this one here you will be able to see that I have removed the line that divides the two halves of the page. As well as that I have also added some more text on the bottom right to try and fill some blank spaces. I have kept the positioning of the image and the text the same because I felt that the images and text were fine where as they were.
This final version at the bottom has got the page number included on it because I forgot to put it on there on the previous image.
This final version at the bottom has got the page number included on it because I forgot to put it on there on the previous image. On this version I had to rearrange all of the text so that everything fitted on the same line as in the previous versions you can see that this is not the case.

Mock Ups
This is the original mock-up that I did for the front cover of my magazine. However, if you look at the design on the front of the magazine you will be able to see that the design has been altered. This then prompted me to change the design that was on there. The main reason that I chose to change the design and the colours on my magazine because I realised that I was making an R'n'B magazine and these colours just didn't seem appropriate. As well as this when I looked at Vibe magazine, I saw the laout for it and also saw that my design didn't really look suitable for the genre of my magazine. If you look below you will be able to see the new mock-up that I made to represent the final outcome of my magazine. You will be able to see that the colours have been changed on this magazine as well as the layout and this was all done to make sure that it looked suitable for an R'n'B magazine.
This is the mock up for the contents page. It will follow the same colour scheme as the front cover and the double page spread with - black, green and white. Behind the main image there will be the letter 'P' faded into the background to represent the title of the magazine which is: 'Press Play'.Wednesday, 20 October 2010
Magazine Double Page Spread Research
This double page spread is from RWD magazine. On the both pages you can see that the story concerns The Black Eyed Peas is on there.
On the double page spread you will be able to see that unlike the front cover of the magazine only four colours have been used.
If you look at the typeface on the left hand side of the page you will be able to see that the font looks quite young and funky. This suggests that the magazine is trying to keep up with the young generation because if they see something funky like this then they would instantly take an interest in reading the contents of the article. Also including an image of The Black Eyed Peas, a famous band in today's musical culture, would help to encourage the people to see what the advertisement is all about because of their popularity with so many people. This also suggests that RWD are trying to keep up to date with the latest singers in order to keep the readers interest.
The main image shows how three members of the band are washed out whereas the other remaining member isn't. This suggests that he is the main member of the band and in doing this the readers will want to find out what stories the magazine has got to offer on all four members of the band. You can also see the main image of them covers the whole of the left page and the majority of the right page as well. This implies that
This double page spread has got a clear layout which makes it easier for the readers but there is quite a lot of text on there. This can be seen as a negative concept because not every young person enjoys seeing things that has more images so than text so I know that this is a factor that I will have to consider when I am making my double page spread.
